Salon-Worthy Hair at Home with This Simple Blowout Brush Technique

Assuming you know what a blowout brush is, below is a step-by-step guide on how I recommend using it at home to create a real blowout look. A few things to keep in mind

  1. As always, the products you use will ultimately determine how smooth, how bouncy, how frizz-free, and how many days your blowout will last, regardless of the tools you use

  2. I still prefer a blow dryer and round brush blow dryer when doing my own hair, but I love my GHD Duet blowout brush, and that's all I use at home

  3. This takes practice to get results and timing down. Please keep trying, you will get it. Don't quit. It's not you or your tool or your hair, it's just a skill to learn, and I believe in you!

If you've ever tried to do a salon blowout at home and you end up with frizz, flat roots, or tired arms, don't worry, there is another way. Traditional blowouts use a brush in one hand and a dryer in the other, which really requires circus-level coordination, muscle strength, and a certain level of hand-eye coordination. So now, with a blowout brush, is the answer to having silky, bouncy, well-groomed hair without the hassle.

Here's a quick home blowout routine using a blowout brush, plus the accurate prep steps that make the biggest difference for frizz, shine, and longevity.

Why a blowout brush is the best in-home choice blowout brush performs the tasks of two devices at once. It smooths, shapes, and dries without the "third-arm problem." It reduces your learning curve, saves time, and makes the entire process seem achievable, not frustrating.

Tools I recommend: Choose one based on your budget and goals:

• GHD Blowout Brush – highest shine, luxury performance, longest-lasting results (I use this at home)

• Amika Blowout Brush – sturdy, performs well on most hair types, easy to handle

• Revlon Blowout Brush – budget-friendly, great for beginners, better than air-drying, but not as long-lasting

Products that break or create your blowout

Before styling, towel-dry and condition/prep:

• Color-safe shampoo and conditioner (Wella Color Motion is a great one)

• A heat protectant and styler such as IGK Beach Club Blowout Cream

• Amika Blockade: A smoothing or blowout cream on mid-lengths and ends for slip and shine

Your step-by-step home blowout regimen:

Prep and towel-dry until hair is damp, not dripping

Use heat protectant and comb/brush through.

Rough-dry the hair until almost dry

Each section should fit comfertably inside the brush, take as many sections as needed.

Rough-dry each section until it is dry

Start blowing out your hair with your blowout brush, taking medium-sized sections, always directing hair up at the root for volume, and making sure you glide it through the ends completely

To avoid breakage, go slowly and constantly through the section; each section will take about 2-3 passes. You are done with that section when your hair looks shiny and starts to curl and the ends.

For a real salon result, twist the section around your fingers and clip close to the scalp to cool.

Finish with a light oil on the ends for shine, then hairspray
